The Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad, also called The Katy or the MKT, followed a north/south route. It entered Texas from the north in modern-day Denison on Christmas Day in 1872. Key stops along the route included Kansas City, Dallas/Fort Worth, Waco, San Antonio, and Houston/Galveston. MKT merged with Union Pacific in 1988. This photo is believed to be from the mid-to-late 1970s, and the train is headed south in roughly the area where American Airlines Center is located today. Of the three tallest buildings in the photo the old First National Bank building is the tallest, then One Main Place in the center, and the Holiday Inn (now Holiday Inn Crown Plaza) building is on the right.

At the same time, African Americans have had to fight for equality. As the civil rights movement took hold in the 1960s, various places became associated with this historic event. The H.L. Green store (formerly located in the Wilson Building at 1623 Main), was the site of demonstrations and was the first store in the city to desegregate their lunch counter. The home of Civil Rights activist, Juanita Craft stands at 2618 Warren where Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon Johnson both met with Ms. Craft.

Visit us in DePere, Wisconsin for great food and good times! Located off Wisconsin's Interstate 41, Plank Road Plate and Pour was named as a tribute to the very first Green Bay to Fond du Lac roadway. In the mid 1800's a wooden plank road was commissioned to connect the two cities. The road eventually turned into a railway which is now known as the Fox River Trail.Learn more about our story and view our gallery.VIEW GALLERY >>

By 1623, the English knew there was an abundance of codfish in the waters off Gloucester. The Dorchester Company sent out three ships from England and started a settlement along the coast. A group of pilgrims from the Plymouth Colony also sailed to Gloucester and built the first racks for drying fish. In the years that followed, both groups experienced difficulty in establishing a profitable operation.

The same railroads which brought an influx of artists to Gloucester also expanded opportunities for land-based trade and opened up the area for tourism, which was destined to emerge as one of the city's major industries.

The Fluke 1623-2 earth ground tester is able to measure earth ground loop resistances using only clamps. With this test method, two clamps are placed around the earth ground rod and each are connected to the tester. No earth ground stakes are used at all. A known, fixed voltage is induced by one clamp and the current is measured using the second clamp. Then the tester automatically determines the resistance of the earth ground rod. This test method only works if a bonded earth ground system exists for the building or structure under test, but most are. If there is only one path to ground, like at many residential applications, the Stakeless method will not provide an acceptable value and the Fall-of-Potential test method must be used.

2-hour Free Parking: There are numerous curbside spaces along Court Street (Route 3A), Main Street, Main Street Extension, Market Street, Sandwich Street and Depot Square where you can also park for free but for only up to 2 hours. [Note: free parking up to 4 hours is allowed on Summer Street only]. Because they are immediately adjacent to downtown retail shops and restaurants, these parking spaces are fully occupied during most of the day and the time limit for these spaces is strictly enforced. If you expect to stay for longer than 2 hours, you should consider the 4-hour parking meters or 10-hour lots. The locations of the free and 2-hour time limit parking spaces are shown in green on the map below.
